What are the ingredients of gulab jamun?

Ingredients

For jamuns
Milk powder-2 cup
Ghee-2 tbsp
Baking powder-1/2 tsp
All-purpose flour-2 tbsp
Semolina-2 tbsp
Water-1/4 cup
Milk-1/4 cup
Oil for frying

For sugar syrup
Sugar-2 cup
Water-2 1/2 cup
Cardamom-4
Saffron-5 strang
Lemon juice-1 tbsp

Preparation
  • In a bowl add milk powder, ghee, maida, and baking powder, mix well.
  • Take a small bowl to add semolina and water. Soak the semolina for 10 minutes.
  • Add soaked semolina and milk into the milk powder mix. Combine gently.
  • Use soft hands do not apply too much pressure, don't want the over-knead the dough.
  • Cover and let it rest for 15 minutes.
  • Grease your hands and roll to smooth balls.
  • The gulab jamun balls should be totally smooth without any crack. If you see cracks on top, knead again till its all smooth.
  • Fry the balls at medium to low heat, until they are nice dark golden brown color. If you fry at high heat, the jamuns will not be cooked from inside.
  • Keep Stirring gently to fry them uniformly and take it out.
  • Next step to prepare sugar syrup, in a Kadai add sugar, water, cardamom, saffron, and lemon juice.
  • Boil the syrup until it turns slightly thick.
  • Turn off the heat before it goes to a 1 string consistency.
  • Add gulab jamuns into the hot syrup. Allow them to rest for 3 hours.
  • After 3 hours our perfect spongy gulab jamun is ready to serve.
  • Enjoy your celebrations with yummy gulab jamuns.
