How To Make Unniyappam | Appam

Unni Appam is a traditional snack that is prepared during festival season in Kerala. Traditionally Unni Appam is made with white rice and it takes more time to prepare. It needs fermentation, here I am sharing how to make instant Unni Appam using maida and rice flour. This tasty Rava Unni Appam recipe is simple and it can be easily prepared for your celebrations. It is a Kerala's version of sweet kuzhi paniyaram.

What are the ingredients for Instant Unni Appam?

Ingredients


Maida /All purpose flour-1 cup
Rice flour-1/2 cup
Semolina / Rava-1 tbsp
Jaggery -300 grm
Water-1 1/2 cup
Coconut -1/2 cup
Cardamom-3
Cumin seeds-1/2 tsp
Salt-1/4 tsp
Ghee-1 tsp
Coconut oil for frying

Preparation

  • Take a bowl add maida, rice flour and semolina mix well
  • Then melt and strain jaggery {Here I took 300grm jaggery+1/2 cup water}
  •  Pour this luk warm jaggery syrup into the flour mix, combine well.
  • In a mixing jar add coconut, cardamom and cumin seeds blend it without water just a few seconds. Do not over blend
  • Add this to the batter
  • Add 1 cup water, salt and ghee mix well
  • Take an unniyppam mold and pour coconut oil
  • When hot pour 1 tbsp of batter into each mold, then adjust the flame to medium and flip the appams and fry until golden brown shade.
  • When done keep in a strainer and wipe with a kitchen tissue.
